The Rheumatology Initiative (tRi), established on 30th July, 2013, is a patient-centered registered nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people living with rheumatic autoimmune conditions across Africa. Founded to address critical gaps in awareness, diagnosis, access to treatment, and patient support, tRiworks to ensure that individuals living with conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, juvenile arthritis, and related autoimmune diseases receive timely care and holistic support.

Our Mission
To lead impactful awareness, education, advocacy, and support for people living with autoimmune rheumatic diseases by delivering credible information, practical guidance, and evidence-based advances in care. With a deliberate focus on children, adolescents, and young adults, we advance and support research that deepens understanding, improves treatment outcomes, and champions equitable access to effective care across Ghana and Africa.

What We Do: Deliver patient education and empowerment programs, provide psychosocial support and peer engagement platforms, lead public awareness and community outreach campaigns, advocate for improved healthcare policies and access to treatment, foster collaboration between patients, healthcare providers, and policymakers and promote digital innovation to enhance patient–doctor engagement.

Our Objectives: Increase public understanding of rheumatic diseases, encourage early detection and intervention, strengthen patient support systems, influence sustainable health policy reforms, build strong national and international partnerships.

Our Impact and Achievements
– Over the past 12 years, The Rheumatology Initiative has significantly advanced autoimmune and rheumatic care through advocacy, innovation, and patient-centered leadership.
– Led 35+ national awareness campaigns and conducted 125+ media interviews to increase public education.
– Introduced RheumChat for early screening and developed the RheumaConnect App to support disease tracking and management.
– Trained 200+ doctors and developed early clinical guidance for Rheumatoid Arthritis.
– Pioneered patient involvement in developing National Treatment Guidelines and STGs.
– Supported 50 + patients yearly with emergency medications and lab investigations.
– Held 151+ monthly support group meetings, providing sustained community support.
